Our Story
Sometime during 1985 there was a group of about 26 like-minded classic car enthusiasts who formed the inaugural meeting for the NDSCCC. Two of the founder members are still in the club today, Chris Arscott and John Lain.
An advertisement was placed in one of the local papers in North Devon, asking for any classic car enthusiast who would like to attend the first meeting to get the club off the ground, this first meeting was held in one of the hotels in Bideford. It started by just ticking along and meeting up occasionally. Sometime later they started meeting once a month for lunch and would try and attend at least three or four car runs a year and take a few cars to a couple of annual shows.
No one had to have a pristine car, it could be a Hillman covered in rust, whatever the vehicle it was their pride and joy and most importantly they all had a common interest; which was to show off their cars! This has become one of the underpinning principles of the club.
They would always assist one-another when someone had a problem with their vehicle. This helpfulness still runs deep in the core of the club today. We have several of our current members who have a vast knowledge of how a car ticks, and are always willing to help a fellow member, one way or another.
Over 39 years on and we have over 200 members with an amazing assortment of classic and sports cars. During the season there are a variety of events that we organize as a club, car runs, static displays and attending shows hosted by other clubs. There is always plenty going on every month from about March until November ;Like most clubs everyone has their preferred events to attend. Throughout winter one of our committee members organises breakfast meets, once a month at various venues around North Devon and beyond, this allows those who want to, to keep in touch over the winter.
The committee now consists of 15 members who attempt to keep everything running smoothly and make sure there is a variety of events to keep all members happy throughout the year .
